Kalos Music & Art School is pleased to welcome once again the renowned Cuban/Venezuelan vocalist Susana Behar to celebrate the Hispanic Heritage Month, next Saturday 29th at 7:00 pm.
Susana Behar, joined by award-winning guitarist and composer Jose Luis de la Paz, multi-instrumentalist Saul Vera and percussionist Jose Gregorio Hernandez, will present music from a variety of Hispanic cultures, including an exceptional performance of flamenco inspired dances by Niurca Marquez.

Drummer and composer, Fabio Rojas is visiting Kalos Music & Art Scool next Saturday, October 29th to teach a fascinating Master Class: Jazz Drumming Evolution.
Rojas will share his vast knowledge about this topic with musicians, aficionados, and students of all levels. Learn and enjoy at this interesting Master Class focused on the evolution of Jazz drumming from its conception to contemporary Jazz as well as the influential musicians who helped shape these concepts.
Since arriving to the US in 2010, Rojas has performed with artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Geri Allen, Greg Osby, Bill Pierce, Sean Jones, Kevin Harris, John Lockwood, Carlos Averhoff Jr, Manuel Valera and in venues such as BU Agganis Arena, Boston Symphony Hall, Lincoln Center, The Esplanade, Scullers Jazz Club, Smoke Jazz Club , SXSW, among many others.
Fabio earned his Bachelor of Music with a Dual Major in Performance and Professional Music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he had the honored of being mentored by Terri Lyne Carrington, Kim Plainfield and Neal Smith. Right after graduating he was hired as a staff member in this institution.

The Music Initiation Workshop is a 6-weeks intensive program taught by Teachers Saúl Vera and Williams Sigismondi who will give you the tools for a better comprehension of the music world through rhythm and melody.
With the use of methodological strategies that involve “learn by playing” and “group playing for a better understanding”, you’ll complete a profound experience and understanding of the music: reading, writing, history and aesthetics of a universal language.

Kalos Music continuando su ciclo denominado Close Up Series presenta a la Cantante Susana Behar y su concierto “On The Crossroads” ‘A delighful journey through Latin American and Sephardic music’ un programa de fusión de culturas que reúne temas de la tradición musical sefaradí, española y latinoamericana .
Susana Behar cantante nacida en Cuba comparte su pasión por la canción popular latinoamericana, en particular las de su tierra adoptiva, Venezuela, junto con la música evocadora de sus ancestros sefardíes. Sus conciertos hablan de un mundo de sonidos entrelazados, cautivando a su público mientras su canto se mueve con facilidad desde la delicada intimidad hasta la encantadora intensidad de su sensual voz y estilo .
Ganadora del premio “Individual Artist Fellowship Award from the Florida Department of State” en 2015 Susana ha realizado presentaciones en los Estados Unidos, varios paises de América del Sur y Japón, participando en series de música y festivales, como el prestigioso Piccolo Spoleto en Charleston, Carolina del Sur y el Festival Folclórico Florida en White Springs, Fl, entre otros.
Su primer CD, “La Galana y El Mar” fue lanzado en octubre de 2009.
En 2012, Susana estrenó “De la esencia y de tiempo”, un trabajo interdisciplinario creado en colaboración con el guitarrista y compositor José Luis Rodríguez y la coreógrafo Niurca Márquez, explorando las raíces comunes de la música tradicional española, canciones sefardíes y Flamenco.
En esta oportunidad Susana Behar tendrá como invitado al multi instrumentista y compositor venezolano Saúl Vera quien le acompañará algunos temas para crear especiales texturas “On The Crossroads”.
Kalos Music & Art School fundada en 2012 sigue marcando la pauta en la enseñanza de la música y el arte en el Sur de la Florida y se extiende a la difusión pública del depurado arte de artístas plásticos, músicos, intérpretes y compositores de la música popular y académica acompañado de actividades de extensión para el disfrute y el aprendizaje de la comunidad estudiantil, allegados y público en general.

Kalos Music & Art School continúa su serie “Close Up” con la presentación del aclamado pianista venezolano Leopoldo Betancourt en un concierto conferencia inolvidable. “El Piano: de lo academico a lo popular”.
El reconocido pianista Venezolano, trascendente por su carismático e inconfundible virtuosismo, es considerado hoy día como “uno de los grandes intérpretes de la música latinoamericana al piano” y “un ejecutante de fuerza, talento y condiciones innatas extraordinarias” , que “combina de una manera equilibrada una ejecución virtuosística, plena de emoción con un sentido interpretativo profundo”.
La carrera de Leopoldo Betancourt se ha desarrollado intensamente obteniendo rotundos éxitos en los teatros de las más importantes ciudades de América y Europa, desde el reconocido Teatro Teresa Carreño en Caracas, hasta el Lincoln Center en Nueva York y ha sido solista de numerosas Orquestas Sinfónicas alrededor del mundo.
Su repertorio abarca desde la música barroca hasta la contemporánea y en especial la música latinoamericana. Como parte de su incesante búsqueda de innovación y comunicación, desde el año 2002 se ha dedicado a versionar e interpretar la música popular latinoamericana y venezolana con un estilo muy personal lo que le ha valido una nominación al Premio Grammy 2013. En esta linea presenta este Octubre un DVD con música del compositor Victor Manuel que le ha dado una gran difusión en el Sur de la Florida.
Kalos Music & Art School continúa con la proyección de sus espacios para eventos de difusión cultural que incluyen conciertos, conferencias, catas y talleres bajo un ambiente de continuo intercambio cultural con la comunidad de Aventura, Florida. Bio:
The German guitarist Irina Kircher and the Venezuelan guitarist-composer Alfonso Montes, made their debut as a duo in 1984. They are now considered to be one of the finest duos in the world, producing 27 recordings and performing more than a thousand concert in 37 countries.
The international press has been unanimous in its recognition, respect and admiration for the Duo, invariably praising their virtuoso technique, the precision and complicity of their performance, the evenness of sound, and what is perhaps most important, the enormous emotional range, with which they touch their audiences.
They are regular guest at the most important events in the International Guitar calendar, including the Cambridge Guitar Festival, Cannington Summer school, Gdansk, Barcelona, Montpellier, Arles, Caracas International Festival, USA GFA, Bergen, Iserlohn, Nürtingen,West Dean, Upsala, among others.
Irina and Alfonso have given recitals in such prestigious halls as the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London, The Alte Oper in Frankfurt, The Mozart Saal in Stuttgart, The Beethoven-Kammermusiksaal in Bonn, Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas, Munch Museum in Oslo, Philarmonie Berlin, Teatro Colon Bogota, and are regulars guest soloist of international orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, Saint John Smith Square of London, The Allegro Orchestra of París, the Orchestra of the Warsaw Conservatory, the Caracas Sinfonietta, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Venezuela.
They both taught at the IUDEM, University of Music in Caracas, and due to harassment by the Chávez regime they left Venezuela in the year 2000.
They teach and direct the guitar department at the Stuttgarter Musikschule and are the Directors of the International Rago Guitar Competition which takes place every year in the city of Stuttgart where they live.

Quien es Pedro Castillo?
Pedro Castillo es un cantante, guitarrista, compositor, productor y profesor de musica nacido en Cuba y criado en Venezuela; es egresado de las prestigiosas Universidades Simon Bolivar y Catolica Andres Bello, como Ingeniero Industrial y Negocios respectivamente. Su proyecto como solista acompañado de una intensa actividad en el mundo de la publicidad lo convertiría a la larga en uno de sus personajes mas importantes en el ambito.

The Close-Up series is unlike any other concert series in South Florida. The objective of these concerts is to display the work of popular artists as well as academic performers in a setting that provides ample interaction between the performer and the audience, giving fans a unique experience and the opportunity to ask questions to their favorite performers.
Who is Pedro Castillo?:
He’s an award winning Songwriter, singer, composer, producer and music teacher who was born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela. Mr Castillo graduated from two of the most prestigious universities in Venezuela, first as an Industrial Engineer and later on as an MBA.

Pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He received a scholarship from Miami – Dade College, and after that starts an outstanding career. He has been awarded with “Best Soloist Award” 1989 Miami Jazz Festival, “Outstanding Soloist Award” University of Colorado 1991, “New Artist of the Year” Hennessey Cognac Jazz Search, New York City.
His album <<Unconditional>> released under label SAVANT (2011) was one of the most played jazz records in the United States, becoming one of the top 50 Jazz albums of the year. Earning wonderful reviews by many specialized publications, <<Unconditional>> was chosen as one of the top 10 jazz records of the year by jazzweek.com. This is the fourth album, in the Monasterios’ career and while its eight original compositions can be considered Latin jazz, the scope of the music defies easy categorization. This is just one of the achievements of this outstanding pianist several times Grammy Award nominee. This series’ first concert is featuring also the prominent jazz bass player Jonathan Dadurka who has accompanied jazz greats such as Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer and Arturo Sandoval among others.

Strengthening a collective memory through painstaking photography
Kalos Music & Art School presents “Tamunangue: memories of the tradition”, a heartfelt exhibition about a very important musical tradition from Venezuela under the view of Vera Francheschi . As a young professional documentary photographer, she has been able to capture a vibrant expression of a collective memory. The pictures where taken at Kalos Music Art & School, the only one of its kind in south Florida which has a class cultivating this musical expression.
“Tamunangue” describes a folk tradition, which refer to a ritual fest integrated of music and dance, so popular in certain communities in occidental state of Lara in Venezuela. The “Tamunangue” is also the most complex and magnificent expression of traditional choreography in Venezuela.
Franceschi, Venezuelan, gathered a group of Venezuelan musicians and students living in Miami that come from very different backgrounds but they shared the passion for their cultural musical roots that come from Lara state in Venezuela. Vera Franceschi caught the interpretation of Tamunangue in several workshops’ sessions.
The portraits of this exhibition want to reinforce their Venezuelan identity by keeping alive one of their most important tradition. It is Franceschi´s desire that the visitors can absorb the sonority present in her work and, at the same time, share with you this beautiful collective memory.
The result of this documentary work is going to be shown next January 31st at Kalos Music & Art School, opened since august 2011 and run by very talented Venezuelan musicians: Saul Vera and Eugenia Mendez. Valia Franceschi has coordinated the event and she is also the curator of the exhibition. We will expect you from 7 pm to 9 pm, and you will have the opportunity to, not only meet the faces and instruments behind Vera´s lens, but also to meet them in person and hear them playing some Tamunangue tunes.
“The documentary photography of Vera Franceschi thus constitutes a body of evidence that goes beyond its relationship to reality. Making use of the technological means available today, it captures the essence of feeling in the actions that people execute. (…) Smiles, movements, emphasis, gestures are all conveyed with a fresh sonorousness that is unexpected for this type of activity. The photography, in the proposal, acquires another dimension, (…)”

Fortaleciendo la identidad venezolana a través de cautivadoras fotografías
Kalos Music & Art School presenta “Tamunangue”: memorias de la tradición. cautivadora exhibición fotográfica de Vera Franceschi, sobre esta importante tradición musical venezolana. Franceschi es una joven fotógrafa venezolana que ha capturado a través de diversas imágenes, vibrantes expresiones de esta tradición asociada al solsticio de verano y sembrada en el inconsciente colectivo del estado Lara al occidente de Venezuela. Dichas fotos fueron tomadas en los talleres especiales (Music teaching workshops) de Kalos Music Art & School, la única escuela de su clase en el sur de la Florida, USA, que ha abierto una cátedra de esta tradición musical.
“Tamunangue” o como se le conoce, “son de negros”, es la palabra que designa una suite de cantos y danzas de siete diferentes sones y coreografías, que se hace en homenaje a San Antonio en el estado Lara, al occidente de Venezuela.
Franceschi reunió un grupo de alumnos y músicos venezolanos que viven en Miami, quienes a pesar de tener distintas procedencias, comparten la pasión por sus raíces culturales provenientes del Estado Lara en Venezuela.
Franceschi captó la interpretación de los “sones” del Tamunangue en varias sesiones de trabajo, las cuales buscan reforzar la identidad venezolana de estos protagonistas.
A través de su trabajo, Vera desea que los visitantes puedan absorber la sonoridad presente en sus fotografías y, al mismo tiempo, compartir con ellos esta hermosa expression musical-
El resultado de este trabajo será mostrado el próximo 31 de enero en las instalaciones de Kalos Music Art & School, la cual está bajo la conducción de talentosos músicos venezolanos, Saul Vera y Eugenia Mendez y ha ofrecido sus cátedras desde agosto de 2011 y
El evento ha sido coordinado por Valia Franceschi quien es también la curadora de la exposición. A partir de las 7 de la noche tendrá la oportunidad de conocer los protagonistas de estos retratos y escucharlos tocar algunas melodías de tamunangue. 7:00PM a 10:00PM

The changes in any artist’s work, understood as the artist’s evolution, respond to a dynamic that is inherent to a creative process impacted by such factors as the exhaustion of various themes, the manipulation of new materials and, above all, the desire to overcome the conditions presented by the work of research. In this context, Moreno has been harshly self-critical when he notes that “after four or five years, one of those things that often occur to me occurred to me yet again, and it was that I don’t like repeating what I do; always doing the same thing is supremely irritating.” This emotion induces him, naturally, to provoke change in his work. It is produced not only by becoming tired of doing the same thing, but also through the urgent need to leave space for the play of an inventive capacity that finds fulfillment in different materials and procedures and that Moreno discovers day by day, as he goes along.
The many sketches and drawings this artist has accumulated over the years, which remain unedited, kept in folders, serve as a point of departure for projects over the horizon, and they come to life at the moment when the right materials announce themselves. The sketches themselves prefigure the formats in which they will be resolved, and there, too, as in their drawing, chance and improvisation rule the day. Thus, his drawings are transformed into a source of inspiration, and it may be said that they dictate the forms and the manner in which they will be transferred to three-dimensional works of art. Such is the dynamic of Moreno’s work. It informs his sense of urgency in responding to the dictates of the unpredictable. In all cases, he does not find satisfaction in what has been achieved so much as when he is required to overcome it. His creative thought is quicker than his materialization. He produces more ideas than the forms he needs to materialize in his works. And these, even though they may be resolved in small formats, could attain a grand, monumental scale.
Such is the other challenge that Moreno poses for himself: how does one ‘think big,’ in such a way that the work done in a small format may provide the tensions that will allow the viewer to see it projected on a superhuman scale, without having to execute it on such a scale? This is one of his dilemmas. The transition from one period to another, from one series to another has, in Moreno’s work, a compulsive overtone and effect. But transition does not signify a rupture that suppresses what ties one phase to the next, nor does it necessarily erase the continuity of an artist’s style. In the new phase of an artist’s work, part of the elements of the previous phase have been preserved. And these, together with the fresh elements that are contributed, now take on a new dimension, a new context.

Presenta su segunda exhibición de arte, en Aventura, Florida.
Este domingo 2 de diciembre, a las 12 m se inaugura la exposición del artista plástico venezolano José Moreno, en la sede de Kalos Music & Art en Aventura, Florida.
José Moreno, 1956, Estado Falcón, Venezuela, es artista plástico y médico pediatra. Su formación como artista plástico es autodidacta y se inició en el ámbito de la pintura popular en 1986. Hoy se ha convertido en un artista con una ecléctica y sólida propuesta plástica que le ha hecho merecedor de premios como la Bienal Bárbaro Rivas, en Caracas, Venezuela, 1989 y el Salón Tito Salas en Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, ese mismo año.
La obra de Moreno es plena de un telúrico colorido y de una explosiva expresión de formas en permanente transformación, que lo convierten en un artista a la vez popular y vanguardista. Moreno logra con esta muestra “Strange Figuration”
consolidar un arte atractivo tanto para conocedores como para no iniciados: una propuesta de nueva dimensión y contexto.
En el año 2008 La Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela, edita el libro “Erotología y Otros asuntos en la Obra de José Moreno.” bajo la autoría del museólogo y crítico Juan Calzadilla, en el que se elogia la trascendencia de la obra de Moreno.
En este libro que lo consagra, la escritora venezolana Laura Antillano, nos dice de la obra del artista:
“La obra de José Moreno, (…) se vincula al arte latinoamericano de todos los tiempos, en la búsqueda de un mundo de personajes nacidos de esferas oníricas y poseedores de una riqueza extraña de abigarrada heterogeneidad.”
Esta exposición es la segunda exposición que inaugura en su sede Kalos Music & Art School. Desde que abrió sus puertas en agosto de 2012, esta escuela de Música y Arte bajo la dirección Académica de la pianista y cantante venezolana Eugenia Méndez, se ha consolidado como una atractiva opción de formación artística en la ciudad de Aventura, Florida.
La exhibición se abre bajo la curaduría de Lunes Rodríguez, Director de la Galería Braulio Salazar de la Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela, y la Coordinación General y el montaje de Lunes Rodríguez y Valia Francechi. La producción general es de Eugenia Méndez y Saúl Vera de Kalos Music Inc.
La invitación es para este domingo 2 de diciembre 2012, a las 12 del mediodía en la sede de Kalos Music & Art School, 20634 Biscayne Boulevard, Aventura 33180, para disfrutar y adquirir la obra de José Moreno y su “Strange Figuration”
