Bio

Miguel Hernandez
Miguel Hernandez is a professional drummer born in San Cristobal, Venezuela and one of the most in-demand drummers in his country today. Hernandez started his musical education as a child receiving a wide-range of musical instruction at the most important Music Colleges of Venezuela in disciplines such as singing, symphonic percussion, pop styles for drum set, jazz and afro Caribbean rhythms.

In addition to his musical training, Hernández has developed an important body of work on musicology and research in situ about afro-Venezuelan music for drums since 1996. As a result of his research, Hernández achieves the adaptation of most of the Afro-Venezuelan rhythms to the drum set and publishes in 2007 the book & CD “Ritmos Afrovenezolanos Para La Batería” (Afro-Venezuelan rhythms for the drum set) which he co-authored with Venezuelan pianist Hildemaro Alvarez. This is the first didactic book in its class.

On 2014, Hernández relocated to Miami to resume his activities as teacher and performer working as a part of the Kalos Music & Art School team and to continue his work as a performer with his own musical project: “Miguel Hernández Project”.
